The 40-inch Boller and Chivens Cassegrain is equipped with a Cassegrain spectrograph, a rapid-scanning spectrometer, a photographic camera, and image tubes used in conjunction with the spectrograph. The 16-inch Boller and Chivens Cassegrain is equipped with a standard UBV photometer.
