"Searches for Planets Around Post-Main Sequence Stars"

Prof. Alex Wolszczan
Penn State University

The extrasolar planet research over the last 10 years has been clearly focused on main- sequence stars. However, to fully understand conditions for planet formation and the formation process itself, it is necessary to discover and examine planetary systems around a possibly wide variety of stars. I will discuss the recent detections of planetary companions to K-giants and searches for disks and planets around neutron stars.
