"X-ray Observations of Globular Clusters"

Dr. Craig Heinke
Northwestern University

The Chandra and Hubble observatories are the first to allow detailed studies of the populations of X-ray sources in globular clusters. X-ray emitting objects in globular clusters include low-mass X-ray binaries, cataclysmic variables, millisecond pulsars, and chromospherically active binaries. I will discuss optical identification efforts, the identification and nature of quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries, and the distribution of X-ray sources among clusters with different properties. I may also discuss the results of our deep Chandra campaign on 47 Tuc, which constrain the number of millisecond pulsars in that cluster.
